My name is Rabbi Robert O. Miller. I was born in Killeen Texas on
September 24, 1957. I was born into a priestly family. I am the third
generation minister. My family were pioneers in the Pentecostal Movement. I
made my first profession of faith at 5 and preached my first sermon at 6.
My Grandmother was a strong influence in my life. My mother having been
tragically killed in an automobile accident along with my brother and
sister, my Grandmother became my teacher. During World War II, when there
was a shortage of male clergy, she pioneered several congregations herself
even in the midst of opposition and prejudice. She taught me that there was
no division between the so-called Old and New Testaments. "It is one book,
78% of the Old Testament is unfulfilled, so how can it be old? And 96% of
the New Testament is quotations from the Old, how can it be New? It is one
book, treat it that way." She taught me of the heroes of our faith. Most of
all she taught me that all Believers are a part of the great Commonwealth of
Israel. This would shape me for the rest of my life.
After I graduated from High School I entered Southern Bible College. It
was there while studying Romans 3 that the Ruach HaKodesh(Holy Spirit) made
it real to me.
"What advantage then has the Jew?" As I sat there I realized that my
theology that I was studying taught me that there was no advantage in being
a Jew. I read on, "what is the profit of circumcision? None whatsoever.
"Much in every way! Chiefly (or primarily) because to them were committed
the oracles of Yahweh." This was amazing! I began to seek counsel from
various commentaries to see what they said on the subject and realized that
most writers just omitted these verses. Much in every way! Not someway, not
partially, but in everyway. But here is the clincher, "For what if some did
not believe? (in the oracles of Yahweh) Will their unbelief make the Faith
of Yahweh without effect? Certainly not! Indeed, let Yahweh be true but
every man a liar." There had never been a need for another belief system;
the Faith of Yahweh was still in effect. The religion of the Patriarchs was
not done away with, it is still in effect. I decided then that I needed to
study with the Jews.
After leaving SBC I became licensed with the Assemblies of God.
I took my first Senior Pastorate in 1987 in Hillsboro Texas. It was an
exciting time in my life. I went to Israel for the first time that year. I
was never the same after that. I began to attend Agudat Yakkov in Waco Texas
and studying under the late Rabbi Schulman. I rejected Christian Romanism
for my whole theology was based on a Hebraic understanding. I was
increasingly bringing the message of "Covenant" through YahShua to my
congregation and the people were receiving it well. This was in an era of
"hyper-faith" and prosperity teaching of the "name it – claim it" crowd. I
had housewives understanding deep, Hebraic concepts. Rabbi Schulman
recommended that I attend the Chabad in the near future to further my
theological education.
By 1991, the Church Board felt that my time had come and I agreed.
I left there to immediately pastor Evangel Center in Temple Texas. Here
my message was well received. And it was during this time I entered the
Chabad (an ultra-orthodox Jewish rabbinical school) in Austin Texas. The
name 'Chabad' is a Hebrew acronym for the expression 'Chokmah,' 'Binah" and
'Da'at' -- Wisdom, Understanding and Knowledge. As the Rabbis taught I could
hear the words of Messiah YahShua ringing in my ears. As my knowledge grew,
Yahweh was being revealed to me in ways that cannot even be explained. I
realize that if Yahweh had not preserved the Jewish people and their Faith
all of the culture of Scripture would have been lost to the traditions of
men. I would study with them for the next two years. Things were going well
in my life. I had a successful pastorate, a beautiful wife, and three
wonderful children.
Three years into my pastorate my precious Grandmother died and eight days
later my wife informed me that she could no longer be a pastor’s wife and
left me. One month later the Church Board pressured me to resign but the
people would not receive it so I took an indefinite sabbatical. I guess I'm
still on that sabbatical.
For the next five years I was an evangelist. It was during this time,
shortly after my ex-wife had married, that I met my future wife, Marlene.
Yahweh had showed her the very same things He had showed me in Scripture. It
was refreshing to meet a Believer of like precious faith. One year later we
were married.
One Sunday morning during service a Word from Yahweh came to me. "I will
no longer accept strange fire…turn from Babylon and turn to Zion…turn away
from Rome and go up to Jerusalem." I knew that I had to leave the Church and
that day we began looking for buildings. So on October 15th 1996 we formed
Agudat Bris in Temple Texas.
That year while I was studying Ezekiel 37 and Jeremiah 31 I began to see
the reality of the unification of the two houses of Judah and Ephraim coming
together forming one unified nation of the Commonwealth of Israel.
A little later while studying Isaiah 56 I really understood our faith
stood on three pillars: the Sabbaths, the Name and the Covenant, this is
what pleases Yahweh. All of this was purchased by the bllod of our King,
Messiah YahShua, who is the express image of the invisible Elohim. He has
promised to bring salvation to those that keep the Faith.
On January 19th 2000 we became members of the Messianic Israel Alliance.
On April 4th 2001 we became members of the Union of Two House Messianic
Congregations now named Union of Nazarene Yisrael Congregations. I didn't
know that there were so many other congregation experiencing the same things
in Scripture we were. At our first conference Rav Moshe and Rav Ed Nydle
placed their hands on me and ordained my as a Rabbi in our Union, that was a
hallmark in my life.
Every year since Yahweh has blessed me and allowed me to be a speaker at
our conventions. I stand amazed at what Yahweh is doing through His son King
Messiah YahShua the world over. I cannot wait to see what unfolds during
these End times.
Now, our Heavenly Father has called me to be the traveling shepherd for
our Union and I have accepted that call. To uplift, encourage and send an
extended hand of love from the leadership of the Union to each and everyone
of our ministers the world over. It is very important to your leadership
that every congregation and its undershepherd know that they are just a
phone call away. So it is with this call in mind that the Board of Rabbis
have formed the position of traveling shepherd. I look forward to serving
you. Baruch HaShem Yahweh!
